For my case, Odoo v8.0 branch does not run with Ubuntu 14.04 x64. Branch saas-5 and 7.0 run without any problems, but 8.0 service crashes immediately after having started. Therefore, I think it is an issue with 8.0 branch or OS and no installation fault on my part. Did anybody succeed in running 8.0 branch with same OS like me and can advice me which installation guide to use to get it run?

I made use of this script: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/lukebranch/openerp-install-scripts/master/odoo-saas4/ubuntu-14-04/odoo_install.sh
on a fresh ubuntu server 14.04 install.
It works perfectly for me with the following changes:
- I replace OE_SERVERTYPE="openerp-gevent" with OE_SERVERTYPE="openerp-server" to use the usual access on port 8069

I managed to install and run the 8.0 branch from GitHub on Ubuntu 14.04 x64, and I know of more people that did without problems. Post your error / tail of the logfile, there are probably useful indications in there regarding the error.
