In advance: I've tried it a few times but I can't post the codes here even though I've formatted the text as code. The code is not visible. If you tell me how to do it, I'll be happy to post it.

Problem:

I installed Odoo on Windows and established the connection to the external domain with IIS. Everything is going well, but there are problems with the IFrame within the e-learning app. The called IFrame is always loaded with localhost: 8069 instead of the URL of the website. Of course, this means that the IFrame cannot load because the website to be loaded is, for example, under: https://mydomain.de//slides/embed/2?page=1  which can be called up under this address without any problem, however there is of course no access under

http://localhost//slides/embed/2?page=1

from outside. Unless you are on the server itself.

The HTML code which the IFrame should load when accessing the server from outside looks incorrectly as follows:

"iframe src="http://localhost:8069/slides/embed/2?page=1"

Unfortunately, Odoo always automatically uses this localhost address for an IFrame.

First of all more about the setup of the IIS. I installed Odoo on Windows and connected the site to the localhost with IIS via URL Rewrite. Here the code:

In Odoo itself, I created web.base.url.freeze and set the value to "True". I then changed the "web.base.url" to mydomain.de accordingly.

This means that the URL under web.base.url always remains “mydomain.de” (static).

I have searched the Internet a lot but have not found a solution to my problem. It is not quite clear to me whether the error is within Odoo or whether further rules have to be created or changed in IIS. Unfortunately, various attempts failed. Unfortunately, the IIS URL rewrite rule does not change the IFrame address under Odoo. This also makes sense to the extent that an IFrame should always point to a specified point.

As far as I understand, this would have to be changed in Odoo itself. Here the value for IFrame should be adjustable within Odoo.

This value for IFrames is not changed via web.base.url, which would, however, make sense.

I hope I have expressed myself clearly enough and would be happy about help

I can not confirm the behaviour you have indicated. In a common Linux setup with a popular reverse proxy, such as nginx or my favorite Caddy Server, there is no issue at all in a default setup. I'm afraid with Windows 10 and IIS you are quite lonely in the wilderness :-)

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, I'm probably pretty much alone there :)… .. If I can't do it with the IIS, I'll probably have to switch to another server or at least install the caddy server under Windows. Working with the IIS would, however, be the easiest option under Windows. As I said, everything works fine, only the thing with the IFrames causes difficulties. I suppose I would have to create a special rule for the reverse proxy, which would rewrite the IFrame address from

"iframe src="http://localhost:8069/slides/embed/2?page=1"

to "iframe src="http://mydomain.de/slides/embed/2?page=1"

when an external request was made. Then the address would be used correctly in the HTML. This does not work with the standard setup. I tend not to assume that it is Odoo itself, as the setup should be essentially the same for all platforms. What do you think about that?

The solution to the problem is to create another “outgoing rule” for the reverse proxy. Unfortunately, this HTML value is not covered by the normal rewrite rule. I cannot say whether it is a code error in Odoo or whether it is due to the IIS. However, it is probably due to the HTML code from Odoo. I'll write a short step-by-step guide on how to set up the IIS.

First here the solution of theproblem:

Create the new "outbound rule" with the following values:

Pattern:         & lt; iframe src = & quot; http: // localhost: 8069 /
Value:         & lt; iframe src = & quot; https: //yourdomain.com/
Then replace "Yourdomain" with your own domain address.

Instructions for setting up the IIS
1. Windows Professional or Windows Server is required. These instructions apply to Windows 10 Professional.

2. Activate IIS. There are many instructions on how to do this on the Internet.

https://teckangaroo.com/enable-iis-windows-10/

3.      URL Rewrite installieren https://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/url-rewrite

4.     Install Application Request Routing https://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/application-request-routing

5.        Connect the domain to your own computer. The best thing to do here is to request a static IP from your provider and then forward the domain accordingly to the IP address of the router. Port forwarding must be set up in the router so that incoming requests are forwarded via port 80 and 443 to the computer on which Odoo is running. Example with the Fritz Box router https://www.cfos.de/en-us/cfos-personal-net/port-forwarding/avm-fritzbox-7490.htm Please  set up the forwarding  for port 80 (http) and for port 443 (https ). Nowadays one should not only work with http, because otherwise the files will not be exchanged in encrypted form, which is a very high security risk. However, this is now well known.

6.     Create SSL certificate with https://certifytheweb.com/ You can find extensive instructions here to edit the bindings in the IIS.

7.     Edit IIS bindings. https://www.ssl.com/how-to/binding-in-iis-10/

8 Redirect   https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/9953/38/iis-redirect-http-to-https/

9      Create reverse proxy rules in the ISS https://shyju.wordpress.com/2019/04/10/enable-iis-redirect-and-https-for-odoo-on-windows-server/

Activate the following values under "Synchronize content": A, Form, Frame, IFrame, Img

It works fine for me without activating more values, but it may be possible to activate further. However, there are also problems if you activate the wrong values.

10.    Create the second "Outgoing Rule" as described above in the introduction.

Pattern: & lt; iframe src = & quot; http: // localhost: 8069 /

Value: & lt; iframe src = & quot; https: //yourdomain.com/

As already written above, this IFrame is not covered by the normal rule, which in my opinion should be improved in the Odoo code so that the second rule is not needed.

11     Make Odoo web address static. You still have to change the web address within Odoo and make it static so that it does not always automatically reset itself to http: // localhost: 8069. This is important so that links that are to be shared also get the correct link address that points to the correct domain.

a     Activate developer mode as administrator via Settings and activate at the bottom of the page.

b     Open the settings again

c     Open technical parameters system parameters in the top line

d     Create a new value: "web.base.url.freeze" and enter "True" or "1" as the value without the quotation marks

e     Now adjust the URL of the page under "web.base.url" (the default value is currently // localhost: 8069). Important! Do not insert a slash “/” at the end of the URL. Otherwise problems arise:

Key: web.base.url

Value: https://yourdomain.com (replace Yourdomain with your own address)

f     Now save

g    After logging out and logging in again, check whether the URL under "web.base.url" remains the same. Here are also instructions: https://www.odoo.com/de_DE/forum/hilfe-1/web-base-url-automatic-reset-31937

Here you can finde the howto for setup IIS on Windows 10:
https://www.odoo.com/de_DE/forum/hilfe-1/odoo-14-elearning-iframe-address-of-the-content-wrong-localhost-8069-instead-of-the-url-of-my-domain-195119

could you help me to do this same process but with nginx?

I want to show the project module in an external page (joomla using a wrapper or iframe).

Hi, Jaime, have you already been able to implement it? I have only tried it with the IIS web server on Windows. However, it should work much better with Nginx, which should also be pretty much identical to Nginx on Linux.

I ended up installing Odoo on Linux (Ubuntu with Nginx). However, this is also a lot of work to set up the system and bring everything to work in the end. It would be much easier and nicer to install Odoo on a Windows server.

In addition, Linux with its console operation is of course also a thing in itself and no matter what the Linux users say, Windows is simply much easier to use. However, the security under Linux is probably better, that can hardly be denied. However, Microsoft has also done a lot in the last few years and therefore I would not rate this aspect as high. For Ubutu there is also an installation.

For Ubuntu there is also a simple installation package, which s just like the .exe file can be installed under Windows. After that, however, you still need a few additional programs, which can also be installed relatively easily.

https://www.odoo.com/de_DE/page/download

Even if you use Ubuntu with a graphical interface, it still needs the console to perform most operations. If you don't use the commands carefully, you can cause a lot of damage, which doesn't really happen in Windows, or it is much more difficult to cause serious system damage.
