Hello, I'd like to install fresh OpenERP demo system for myself to a public cloud like Amazon EC2 Ubuntu server. Do anyone have practical experience on such installation? I assume the installation as such would be pretty much the same as doing if to your local Ubuntu desktop client which seems to be pretty straight forward procedure (please correct if I'm wrong).

My main concern is how the connection to the cloud server would work from your desktop regarding a) the actual server maintenance and b) accessing the OpenERP via your client browser. I assume that for the first point you need to have remote desktop software like Putty or Nomachine installed to your desktop, is that right? Regarding the latter i.e. how to access OpenERP in such a server, I'd like to know if that required some special settings or software at the desktop client.

Looking forward to your feedback.

http://www.theopensourcerer.com/2012/12/how-to-install-openerp-7-0-on-ubuntu-12-04-lts/ - for inastall. Putty for ssh console and filezilla for sftp.

Thanks. I was actually aware of above link. How does this installation method (with quite a many steps) differ from procedure introduced in book "Working with OpenERP" by Greg Moss? There you have only a few steps for Ubuntu installation based on 'all-in-one' nightly package (http://nightly.openerp.com/). Latter option is much simplier compared to the http://www.theopensourcerer.com procedure. And further, do you need the Putty only in case you want to use SSH instead of unsecured server connection?

I think I found answer to my above question reg which installation method to use: http://help.openerp.com/question/2562/how-to-install-openerp-v70-on-ubuntu-1204-from-launchpad-repository/ --> Both the Package (http://nightly.openerp.com) and Launchpad methods will work but have slightly different usecase.
