Hello Everyone,

I am reaching out to ask about the proper way to create or uploading fixed assets with associated depreciation values in Odoo 17 Enterprise.

To provide some context, let's consider an example scenario: suppose our company purchased a car on 01.01.2022, and as of the current date, 01.01.2024, we are looking to upload this asset into Odoo.

Can someone please provide detailed steps on how to create or upload fixed assets with depreciation or without depreciation in Odoo 17 Enterprise?

  1. How to properly set up fixed assets with associated depreciation or without depreciation values during the initial upload process, especially for assets acquired in the past.

  2. Any specific considerations or configurations we need to keep in mind when importing fixed asset data via Excel or other means.

  3. Steps for verifying the accuracy of depreciation calculations and ensuring seamless integration with Odoo's accounting functionalities.

  4. Do we need to create a Product Category for each Asset?

1) Create each Asset with the original purchase date, original amount and schedule.

2) Enter the amount already depreciated in the prior system

Example:

1) We purchase an Asset on 6/30/2023 and go live with Odoo on April 1st.

We verify the depreciation schedule - it matches our prior system, with the first 10 entries in the prior system and the last two entries due to be entered into Odoo.

2) We enter the amount depreciated in Odoo prior to going live - ie: $833.33

Note: activate Developer Mode to see this field:

When we re-calculate the depreciation schedule, we see:

The best way to understand how to import any data into Odoo is to create a record and  export it with the following checked:

Then make sure you have the fields you want on the 'Fields to Export' section.  You can find out the names of the fields by hovering over each of them in Developer Mode:

Things you have to make sure before importing fixed assets in odoo:

  1. Group your assets on paper based on their type (Furniture, land, equipment, vehicle etc) and create Asset models in odoo with your desired depreciation template.
  2. If you want the assets acquired in the past to create depreciation entries in the previous financial years, make sure that you give the right acquisition date and map the asset model (that you have created in step 1) in the excel file before importing

These two steps will ensure proper configuration of your assets depreciation template
