On SO form there is a field named validity_date shown as expiration. Does this field do anything? So far I've seen it appears to quotations, but whenever the date hits there is no change in the SO. I was expecting a warning or an autocancel for the SO.
Does this field do anything besides showing it on quotations?
The Quotation deadline feature has no other functionality besides encouraging your Customer to make a decision, it also appears on the Customer Portal when they review the Quotation from there.

As Ray said, out of the box Odoo this field does not block an internal user from confirming the sales order. In my experience it does block a portal user from self confirming a sales order though. Also, I think with a little customization, you could calculate if the date has passed, and then trigger some automated rules to do nearly any action you desire.
