Is there a way to configure an outgoing email server that will only be used in mass emails? i.e. the standard day to day communication will be using the default Odoo configuration but for sending a mass email I will be able to use an external server?


When I set up an external server (I use AWS) all emails are going through it.


I am using Odoo hosted (no .sh or on-prem). So add ons are not relevant for me.

There is no way to do it using the outgoing email setup screen.  As you found, Odoo sends all emails to the external server if one is configured.  If the external server isn't configured properly, Odoo still sends all emails to it, and they all fail to send.

However, Odoo is highly customizable, so you could have a developer create a custom module to do this-- maybe as a custom menu in the email marketing app.
