We are a drug wholesaler. We need to track lot numbers and expiration dates in our inventory. We also need to maintain a system to ensure first-expiry/first-out (FEFO) stock rotation.

I am using the odoo online v.10 and need to include the different expiration dates for each lot number in the same product.  If you track the inventory by Unique Serial Number or by Lots numbers there is no way to include the expiration date when receiving the merchandise. ¿Any help?

Step 1: You have to enable them first
Go to 'Inventory' >Configuration >Settings > Under 'Traceability' > Select 'Track lots or serial numbers' in 'Lots and Serial Numbers'
This will enable another option below called 'Expiration Dates' . Select 'Define Expiration Date on serial numbers'
Step 2: Configure your product
     Under 'Inventory' tab

         Product Life Time:

         Product Use Time:

         Product Removal Time:

         Product Alert Time:

     provide values for these fields.

Step 3: If you have done step 1 & 2 Successfully
when you try to validate an incoming shipment you will get a warning

"Some products require lots/serial numbers, so you need to specify those first! "

You can give a lot/serial number by clicking the button "Lot Split" (marked on the image)

You can see these Lot/Serial Numbers under  Inventory> Inventory Control> Lot/Serial Numbers

The problem is that even if I set life_time and etc. in product, the date in the lot is not automatically set.. so, what are those numbers in the product for if you must set the date by hand?

is this a bug??

My problem is, the Lot End of Life Date will be the Purchase Date plus the Product Life Time, instead of the Production Date.

Hey Rafael,

Dealing with expiration dates in a drug wholesale business is crucial, and I get the headache of managing lot numbers and ensuring a proper stock rotation. I've been down that road with Odoo too. Here's a workaround that might help you out.

In Odoo v.10, if you're stuck with tracking inventory by Unique Serial Number or Lots numbers, you can create a custom field to include the expiration date when receiving merchandise. Go to the developer mode, add a custom field for expiration date in your product form, and make sure it's visible during the receiving process.

Next, set up a smart FEFO rotation by regularly running a report that identifies products nearing expiration. This way, you can prioritize their sale or use before they expire.

It's a bit of a workaround, but it gets the job done. I've used it successfully here: https://andersenlab.de/blueprint/AI-solutions-in-healthcare . Holler at me if you need some extra deets or hit a snag.

Hi,

Do you know if any solution was found or development made?

Thanks.
