How can I make many2one field records read-only when opened with an external link button. I do not want my user to edit the record while using an external link.

Not sure if I understand your question correctly, but you can add the following to the XML to prevent the user from opening the record on a many2one:
<attribute name="options">{"no_open":true}</attribute>
More information and screenshots: Block External LinkI would like to show the record to the user but don't let the user be able to edit while using an external link, who has edit rights to that record.
As far as I know, that's not possible.
