I’m using Odoo 19 and recently mapped my custom domain to my Odoo website. The custom domain is working fine, but Google search is still showing both URLs:

  • www.mywebsite.com (custom domain)

  • www.mywebsite1.odoo.com (original Odoo database URL)

Someone advised me to:

  • Make sure the custom domain is set as the main domain in Odoo

  • Add a 301 redirect from the old Odoo URL

  • Add the new domain in Google Search Console

  • Remove the old Odoo URLs from Google’s index

I’ve completed all the steps except removing the old URL from Search Console, because I never added the old Odoo URL there. It seems Google indexed it automatically.

My question:

How can I remove the old Odoo URL (mywebsite1.odoo.com) from Google Search Console if I never added or verified it? Is there a way to request removal for a domain I don’t own in Search Console?

Hi,

To remove an outdated Odoo URL from Google search, you need to block access to the old instance and then notify Google. First, ensure the old URL is no longer publicly reachable. If the page still loads, Google will continue indexing it no matter what settings you apply.

You can follow these steps:

  • Disable or restrict the old Odoo database, or configure it to return a 404 / 410 error so Google knows the content is gone.

  • If you’ve moved to a new domain, set up a 301 redirect pointing to the new URL.

  • Then open Google Search Console, verify your domain, and use the Removals tool to request deletion of the outdated link from search results.

  • Optionally, update your robots.txt to block future crawling of the old path, though this alone won’t remove already-indexed pages.

Once the link is inaccessible and the removal request is submitted, Google will gradually drop the old URL from its index.
