How to Manage Subcontractors as Users Without Odoo Backend Access or Extra Costs?

Hello Odoo Community,


I’m currently working with a number of subcontractors whose involvement in our projects is dynamic—they come and go based on the needs of the project. While I want to manage and track their work within Odoo, I don't want them to have full access to the Odoo backend. More importantly, I’d like to avoid the extra cost associated with creating standard user accounts for them, as their involvement is sporadic and limited.


Here are the key points:


Subcontractors are not permanent: They are added and removed frequently depending on project needs.

No need for backend access: They only need to interact with Odoo minimally, such as logging hours or updating task statuses, without needing full user permissions.

Avoiding additional costs: I want to keep costs down by not purchasing full user licenses for subcontractors who won’t be using the full backend features.

Is there a way to set up subcontractors in Odoo so that they can interact with the system in a limited way (e.g., through a portal or email) without incurring the cost of a full user license? How have others managed such scenarios, and what would you recommend for keeping this process efficient and cost-effective?
