different Unit of measure for tiles..

Question

Hi i have problem. in selling the tiles which have two unit of measues (units , square feet) .one tile is 4sqft

There are two types of sales are to be made 1) unit of measure is units itself  eg : some customers need a unit / more number of tiles.
2)Some customers need tile in sqft as unit of measure

in the first case is possible in the normal sale order. But my problem is how to make sales of tile in square feet wise

how to make sales of tiles in square feet wise.

You should put both unit of measures (Unit annd SqFt) in the same category of unit of measures. You must also give the conversion ratio in the definition of the unit of measure, as an example:

Unit: reference UoM
SqFt: 4 SqFt = 1 Unit
As Unit is already defined when you install OpenERP, you can just add another unit of measure (SqFt) in the same category than Unit.

Just make a new unit of measure category and type. The category would be "area", then your measure would be "sq.ft." or whatever you want to specifically call it. Set it as the base unit for that category.

The unit of measure itself doesn't really matter until you're trying to convert to another measure in the same category.
