I need to create byproducts of manufacturing productions but we do not use operations so far. I mean that we create manufacturing orders and then we confirm, then we validate a transfer to move material to pre-production and then we close the manufacturing order to receive the final product in stores but we are not using work orders or work stations so far (it's in the pipeline).

Can I create byproducts in BOMs and therefore manufacturing orders with byproducts even though there is no operation specified? Or if I don't specify an operation I am bound to screw something up?

Also I intend to set the BOM for a product specified as consumable (SET-of-cut-cables) and then set individual products for specific lengths of cable (1m-blue-cable, 1m-red-cable, 1m-black-cable, 6m-twin-cable) which will come from the same operation. I don't need the SET-of-cut-cables to increase in stock so I want to set it as consumable and only stock the cut cables. Is this OK?
