I am just wondering what the field vendor_sku is for in product.template?

Since I also have the field default_code and product.code on product.supplerinfo I simply do not know what the sense of vendor_sku is and what to enter there.

Could you please help me to understand if this field is used somewhere else e.g. for creating purchase orders etc. ?
