In setting up our Chart of Accounts in Odoo (v. 14, Enterprise), we created a number of Suspense accounts; bank transaction data is downloaded into these accounts and then used for reconciliation/validation purposes. For example, we have a suspense account for payroll and that data is used to validate our Payroll checking account. While this seems to work the way it should, we recently noticed that the suspense accounts are appearing on the company balance sheet. I suspect that instead of selecting Type "Current Liabilities" that we should have used "Off-Balance Sheet" instead. Would this be a better approach?

I would agree with Ermin's response; Odoo does not appear to allow changing which accounts appear in your Balance Sheet.

Interesting note: In Odoo 14 they appear to have added Cost of Revenue to the Balance Sheet which can be a surprise if you compare your Odoo13 balances with Odoo14.

We all want our reporting to look a bit differently and in North America, GAAP Reporting is very important. But this is perhaps beyond the scope of "out of the box" reporting in an international accounting system?

For me, I think your options are to either:
* Do it the "Odoo Way"
* Create (or pay someone else to create) a Custom Report

Odoo does not allow you to choose another account type. Also, if there is a balance in a suspense acvount, it must appear in the balance sheet.
