We are looking to re-arrange our e-commerce categories...

the parent categories are easy enough to find and shuffle up or down but the child categories are all mixed... I'd like to be able to view the parent categories then drill down on the children categories and re-organize as needed...


does this make sense

We can see and rearrange the parent categories no issues

it's when it comes to the children categories we no longer have the  option...

Thats correct, if you were to group by parent category in this view, you would have the drill down.
To make the changes you could choose to change the sequence ID in a spreadsheet and then import.
Or filter on parent category a few at a time and then drag the child categories to set sequence.
Practicality depends on the number of parent categories there are. From the screenshot I believe there significant so it might be easier to use the export and import option.
To view the sequence Id enable developer mode

you can follow these steps:

  5. Save Changes: After re-organizing the child categories, make sure to save your changes. This action will update the category structure and reflect the new arrangement on your e-commerce website.

On the eCommerce Categories view, Group by on Parent Category field would create the drill down view. However, the drag and drop option to change sequence maybe lost on the group by view.

Exporting to change the sequence numbers and then importing back maybe an option. Other option maybe to filter a parent category and then reshuffle the child categories.
