I have uploaded multiple contacts into my contacts but it says contacted updated but contacts can't be seen

Hi,
May be contacts updated with active False ? Filter inactive records and see whether the uploaded contacts are there or not.

do adding external id play any factor because before adding external id everything I updated can be seen but after adding external id for one field the records are not showing
if external id matches with any of existing records, it will udpate the existing record instead of creating new
