You can access the same information you get in a Bank Register report by using the Journal Items Menu.
Filter by Journal (or account) and date, then unhide the BALANCE field:
From the Accounting module select Reporting->Legal Reports->Accounting Reports->General Ledger
and see if it fulfills your need.
