I have two machines that can manufacture the same products. One does a batch of 1 unit and the other does a batch of 5 units. When placing a sales order how can I specify what machine to use to produce the product.

Why would you know when selling? Would it not be up to your Production team to decide based on all other orders and the planned use of both machines? It doesn't depend on what other orders are already waiting?
@Ray, how would I allow the production team to do this. On the MO that’s created by a sale I don’t see how to modify the BoM
The solution I have seen in other postings is to have several BOM on the product. At least three, where the first one must be without components. The result is that the Manufacturing order will stay in status draft, and not be confirmed. You can then select the BOM version you would use later.
The other option might be to use alternative work center. Then Odoo will assign the alternative work center if the default work center is not available.
This is known for older version, but I think it is the same in V18.
