I had in mind this module - http://zbeanztech.com/blog/menu-search-openerp-7, but I didn't mention it in my original post because I do very much appreciate Zbeanztech, and don't want to reflect negatively on their projects. But I did find their menu search slows the OE interface down, so I'm eager to try a new project.
