Distributor of photovoltaic equipment since 2017, Voltaneo offers high-quality solutions to professionals based in several European countries. To sustain its rapid growth, the company was looking for a software that could centralize its operations, but also boost its performance. Odoo’s platform quickly stood out as the ideal tool.

A wish to modernize, centralize and boost workflows

Founded in 2017, the family-owned company Voltaneo sells all the necessary material for the installation of photovoltaic solar power plants, including panels, structures, inverters, batteries, cables, etc. Based in Clermont-Ferrand, the company has a presence throughout France, the overseas territories (DOM-TOM), and parts of Europe.

From 2017 to 2022, Voltaneo used an old-school ERP system combined with an accounting tool. However, this setup presented several issues, including:

  • Inefficiency in stock management: Managing inventory within the ERP had some limitations, leading the team to rely on Excel files on the side.
  • Lack of flexibility: It wasn’t possible to develop custom features to improve certain aspects of the ERP or to connect it to the eCommerce platform for customers to place orders and view stock levels in real time.
  • Limited software capabilities: The ERP lacked comprehensive business management and accounting features, especially for tracking outstanding balances reliably.

In search of a more complete and flexible solution, Voltaneo began looking at options. Among the software solutions considered were SAP Business One, Divalto, and EBP. Several factors tipped the balance in favor of Odoo. The local presence of Omydoo, a Silver implementation partner, ensured close support throughout the transition. Then, Odoo’s open-source nature offered great flexibility, cloud hosting provided added security, and the implementation and usage budget appeared optimal.

In 2022, Voltaneo enlisted Omydoo’s valuable assistance to present the solution to the employees and successfully carry out the entire software implementation:

 Data recreation: Voltaneo migrated its operations and flows to Odoo without importing its old database. Starting from scratch required recreating every product, entering supplier orders, and switching the entire sales activity.

 Testing phase: A test period allowed each user to try the software and provide constructive feedback.

 Group training: The day before the transition from the old to the new software, a collective training session was held to demonstrate the order process step by step in the new system.

 Platform launch: On launch day, the entire team collaborated to manually enter all necessary data for optimal onboarding. Within 24 hours, the interface was fully integrated and operational. Only the accounting module required more in-depth support and development.

From 16 to 110 million euros in revenue: Odoo as a performance driver for Voltaneo

Choosing Odoo’s centralized and integrated solution to manage all operations brought numerous benefits to Voltaneo, including:

 Revenue multiplied by 7: In 2021, Voltaneo had revenue of €16 million. By April 2022, the Odoo implementation was complete, and that year, €52 million in revenue was recorded. To date, revenue has increased by a factor of 7 in just 4 years. This would not have been possible with the old ERP.

 Centralized operations: A single tool now centralizes all data and workflows, offering a clear and precise overview of the inventory and better traceability (customer interactions, validation steps, product serialization, etc.).

 Accounting managed by 1 expert instead of 3: Accounting is now fully integrated into the business management software, with access to real-time updated data. Manual invoice entry is no longer needed, as everything is automatically linked. Thanks to this integration, hiring three accountants was not necessary. Today, one expert manages accounting with the help of an assistant.

 Accurate order tracking: The Odoo interface is connected via API to shipping providers. It optimizes order tracking, avoiding duplicate entries, and automatically sending tracking numbers to customers.

 Improved webshop performance: Odoo enabled the creation of a high-performance online store for Voltaneo, through which 50% of sales are made. On average, 650 orders are placed each month via the website and are automatically processed within Odoo, eliminating the need for manual data entry by the sales administration team.

 Time savings: Using Odoo saves the team valuable time that was previously spent on tedious and error-prone tasks. Overall, cost savings have been achieved through reduced full-time equivalents (FTE), as fewer people are needed to perform the same work as before.

The main strengths of Odoo are its simplicity, modularity, and SaaS model. Having everything in one tool is a big advantage.
