Hi, is this possible? Or should I need to make with docker - containers and handle this with that?

Hi Stephane,

Ofcourse this is possible! You would first install a V8 on port xxxx and then install a V9 on another port. You will have two Odoo's running on two ports with two different folder locations. I'll write out a little guide. First create a new file to run a V8 installation:

sudo nano odoo-installer.sh

Then place the following code inside:

#!/bin/bash

################################################################################
# Script for installing Odoo V8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (could be used for other version too)
# Author: Yenthe Van Ginneken
#-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This script will install Odoo on your Ubuntu 14.04 server. It can install multiple Odoo instances
# in one Ubuntu because of the different xmlrpc_ports
#-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Make a new file:
# sudo nano odoo-install.sh
# Place this content in it and then make the file executable:
# sudo chmod +x odoo-install.sh
# Execute the script to install Odoo:
# ./odoo-install
################################################################################

##fixed parameters
#odoo
OE_USER="odoo"
OE_HOME="/$OE_USER"
OE_HOME_EXT="/$OE_USER/$OE_USER-server"
#The default port where this Odoo instance will run under (provided you use the command -c in the terminal)
#Set to true if you want to install it, false if you don't need it or have it already installed.
INSTALL_WKHTMLTOPDF="True"

#Choose the Odoo version which you want to install. For example: 8.0, 7.0 or saas-6. When using 'trunk' the master version will be installed.
#IMPORTANT! This script will work fine for any Odoo version except V9. 9.0 needs extra libraries. Please use the script found at
#https://github.com/Yenthe666/InstallScript/tree/master/V9

echo "Stop Odoo service: sudo service $OE_CONFIG stop"
echo "Restart Odoo service: sudo service $OE_CONFIG restart"
echo "-----------------------------------------------------------"

Now make that file executable:

sudo chmod +x odoo-installer.sh

and execute it:

./odoo-installer.sh

Now repeat this proces for V9 with my V9 installation script from Github. Just change the default xmlrpc-port to 8070 for example and then start your V9 installation.

This script for the version 9 doesn't work when odoo 8 is installed with the debian package. How can I fix this?

Yes it could be install both versions in the same server but better install it in a isolated virtualenv for each version. Config files only need to differs in the options xmlrpc_port and addons_path

A more simple way to install Odoo 9

sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv nodejs npm -y
mkdir /opt/odoo
#download and uncompress odoo src as /opt/odoo/9.0
mkdir -p /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0
virtualenv /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0
source /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0/bin/activate
pip install -r /opt/odoo/9.0/requirements.txt
sudo npm install -g less
sudo npm install -g less-plugin-clean-css
sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/lessc /usr/bin/lessc
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/nodejs /usr/bin/node

To run it you need to activate the virtualenv or use the python interpreter at the virtualenv like:

/opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0/bin/python /opt/odoo/9.0/odoo.py --config /etc/odoo.conf

use the same user and permissions of your Odoo 8 installation

Yes it is possible. Why not ?

You can make 2 separate Odoo installation paths which have their separate Git branches, config file and init files but running on different ports.

In Odoo V9 I think you just need to add some extra python packages, that's it !

Don't hesitate to come back with the problems if you face any.

All the best !

Yes you need the node-less libraries for example. :) You can find a list of dependencies here: https://www.odoo.com/forum/help-1/question/91047/#answer-91054

Yes, you are right.

Hi Stephane, What exactly do you mean with the debian package? I have no problem at all having an Odoo 8 and Odoo 9 next to eachother with this script

Axel Mendoza

see my answer on how to install in a python virtual enviroment

It's not working with that: sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv nodejs npm -y mkdir /opt/odoo #download and uncompress odoo src as /opt/odoo/9.0 mkdir -p /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0 virtualenv /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0 source /opt/virtualenv/odoo-9.0/bin/activate pip install -r /opt/odoo/9.0/requirements.txt sudo npm install -g less sudo npm install -g less-plugin-clean-css sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/lessc /usr/bin/lessc sudo ln -s /usr/bin/nodejs /usr/bin/node

I need a step to step documentation, how to install odoo 9.0 on my server, when I'm running Odoo 8.0 with debian. When I install Odoo 9.0 debian it overwrites my localhost:8069 odoo 8.0

Axel Mendoza

seems that you are doing something wrong following all the ways offered to you here, all of them should work. In my way I create a virtualenv so it's like a new python binary on a new debian installed. Also you need to provide more info about what it's wrong in your setup, otherwise is impossible to help you

What I need to do in this position?: #download and uncompress odoo src as /opt/odoo/9.0 uncompress with ?
