Could someone give some examples what could be the best ways to manage configurable product structures based on sales order? two level BOM's where for example one intermediate structure could be changed into another, one raw material changed into another etc. based on customer order.

I have read the e-book of manufacturing and there is note that some other document could explain better these possibilities (management possibilities of these configurable products). Is there some other document somewhere?
