I don't know how to avoid redirections, but here's a little trick.

Redirections comes from the home page setup in your preferences.

First, activate the developper mode on the right of the configuration page. Then,  go to Configuration / Users / your user name and edit the user's preferences ; you will see something like "home page action" where you can select the Apps menu (you can't access that option directly through your preferences window).
