When does the clock on a product's warranty start? At invoice? Delivery? Manufacturing? What if there is a warranty on a repair or a warranty on a product delivered during a repair? If the starting point on the warranty is configurable then how? What if a customer purchases an extended warranty?

If you use the mrp_repair module then in the repair order you can choose the outgoing move of an shipping. So the start date of the warranty is the shipping date of the product. If a product has been repaired and shipped back to the customer then also a new outgoing shipment is created.

If then the product is repaired again, then you can choose the last outgoing shipping (last repair) of the product. The repair module only suggest a warranty expiration date (based on outgoing shipment + product warranty time). You can change it to a value you want.

The warranty time can be set per product in the products form. In the standard installation OpenERP you can not set the warranty time on a per-partner basis. You would need a module for this functionality. This also applies if you want to sell 'warranty contracts' services.

Thank you for the answer about repairs. If you have it, could you add to your answer the date used for warranty start in the case of a simple sale?
