Recommended Approach: Archiving Transactions
Instead of deletion, Odoo recommends archiving transactions. Archiving deactivates the record, removing it from active views without erasing its historical data. This approach maintains data integrity and ensures compliance with auditing standards.Odoo
Steps to Archive a Transaction:
-
Navigate to the Relevant Transaction:
- Access the module where the transaction resides (e.g., Accounting for journal entries).Odoo
-
Select the Transaction:
- Locate and open the specific transaction you wish to archive.
-
Archive the Record:
- Click on the Action dropdown menu.
- Select Archive.
The transaction will now be archived and excluded from active views but retained in the database for auditing purposes.
Alternative: Disabling the Audit Trail
If deletion of transactions is absolutely necessary, you might consider disabling the Audit Trail feature. However, this action comes with significant considerations:
- Irreversible Action: Once disabled, the audit trail cannot be re-enabled if there are existing audit records.
- Data Integrity Risks: Disabling the audit trail allows for the deletion of transactions, which can compromise data integrity and compliance.
Steps to Disable the Audit Trail:
-
Ensure No Existing Audit Records:
- Odoo restricts disabling the audit trail if audit records exist. You would need to delete all existing audit records, which is not recommended and may not be feasible.
-
Disable the Feature:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Under General Settings, locate the Audit Trail option.
- Uncheck or disable the Audit Trail feature.
- Save the changes.
Important Considerations:
- Compliance Requirements: Before disabling the audit trail or deleting transactions, ensure that such actions comply with your organization's policies and any regulatory requirements.
- Data Backup: Always back up your database before making significant changes to system settings or data.
- Consultation: It's advisable to consult with your system administrator or an Odoo expert before proceeding with disabling the audit trail or deleting transactions.

Do you understand the purpose of an Audit trail and why allowing transactions to be deleted would defeat the purpose of one?
I understand what it does but i still want my transaction deleted. Odoo should have factored in a way to give access to a higher level access user
