In v17 you can do it without coding:

1. Create your email template
   • Go to Email Marketing → Templates.
   • Create a new template with the subject/body you want for the newsletter confirmation.
2. Set up Marketing Automation
   • Go to Marketing Automation → Campaigns → New.
   • Create a campaign like Newsletter Welcome.
   • In the Target, choose the model Mailing Contact.
   • Add a filter: “Subscription = True” (and optionally the specific mailing list).
3. Add Activity
   • Add an activity → type = Email.
   • Select the template you created in step 1.
   • Set it to send immediately after the record enters the campaign.

Now, whenever someone subscribes on the website, they are added as a mailing contact, match the filter, and the automation sends your welcome email.
