When defining a sequence for your products, it seems not to have any effect on the display order of products in the webshop.

It does work, but in odoo release 8.0 the sequence is applied in DESCENDING ORDER!!! This will be fixed in SaaS 6 and odoo 9.0, but will remain in 8.0, see https://github.com/odoo/odoo/issues/7263 for more information.
