How to split a product into several other products?

Within the modules of Inventory, manufacture and accounting; I have a product A of 100 kg with a value of $1000 and I want to split it into several products:

Product B in 20 kg with a value of $200, product C in 70kg with a value of $700 and product D in 10 kg with a value of $100. Adding them all: I get a total quantity=100 kg and total value=$1000

How can this be achieved?

Thank you.

Alternate to product packaging is to use manufacturing.. create a BoM for Product B with product A being the component. By enable by-products functionality (setting > Manufacturing > Operations section) you would have the ability to produce Product C and Product D

That's true, but within this case, when using Bill of Materials (BoM), I recommend opting for the Kit type instead of Manufacture. With Kits, you only need to define Products B, C, and D without worrying about stock levels. The Kit's product quantity is computed based on the components' quantity, offering greater flexibility. For instance, if you configure the Manufacture type, when you produce Product B, the stock of Product A is immediately reduced. However, if you receive a sales order for Product C and lack sufficient stock for Product A, it becomes necessary to unbuilt Product B before manufacturing Product C, introducing complexity to the process.

Hi,

You can use Product Packagings feature this way you don't need to manage too many products, now just 1 product and various type of packaging: Setting -> Inventory -> Products section -> enable Product Packagings

Then config Packagings like this or many more if you want like 30KG 40KG 50KG:

Now you can choose the package type that you want

Regards!

Jason and Jaideep,

Thank you for your support.

I have been trying to accomplish this according to Jaideep suggestion but something weird is happening on my side when I do it this way that I still do not get the result expected and I don't know why. I am going to do a bit of clean up to continue testing.

On the other hand using packaging or kits, are things that I am about to explore.

I am trying to split an avocado harvesting crop into different fruit sizes, there are weight ranges that apply, so I pack them in cages according to these classifications.

I will post back with the results.

Thank you so much.

Cheers

I´ve reviewed the three scenarios you guys kindly suggested, and I am going to comment according to my situation and requirement.

Using kits to split my product does not work. Kits are created a the time of sell and are not inventory stocked. You need to always have stock of sourced material to create these kits. So if you offer a kit, you need to be sure you have enough source material available. Kits are good if you want to sell several products as a kit.

Packaging is pretty much the same as kits, no inventoy stock, but help the sales logistics. It would help those who need to pack a product, difference it only works for one product, distinct packaging sizes.

Manufacturing, is more complicated, but it fits my requirement, I can create a BOM with my sourcing component and also create By-Products with the remaining products I want to create. Problem here to solve is there are many variables to consider when creating and running the BOM, so mistakes are easy to commit. So process design and user knowledge is a challenge leaned to avoid such mistakes.

Hope it helps

Thank you Jason and Jaideep
