I'm running the  v13 (online edition)
It seems that the system since October 2020 doesn't update the Smart Button "Variants" anymore in the product template when I exclude some attributes values from the configuration. 

In my case, I have 3 attributes: the first one has 3 values, the second has 2 values and the third one has 5 values. Thus 3 times 2 times 5, equal to 30 variants). Then, I exclude 3 values in the case the first attribute value is selected. The number of variants should then drop to 24.

Everything seems to work fine while creating a new sales order line. Still, even though I'm excluding some combination of values, the number of the variants in the "product variant list" as well as the value shown in the smart button "Variant" (field product_variant_count) is not updated consequently. 

Is this due to the wrong settings? 
Did anybody notice this change in the system behavior?
