Cannot find UOM field on Demo data base. Have the following modules loaded:

Manufacturing
Warehouse
Accounting
Fleet

In Odoo 9.0 for example you'll find it under Inventory/Configuration/Units of Measure or under Sales/Configuration/Products/Unit of Measure, but only if you wear your glasses.
