No it isn't if you don't set right configuration :
- Install mrp module
- Define bill of materials of your kit
- After your purchase order validation, run mrp sheduler(Warehouse -> Schedulers -> Run schedulers) or install mrp_jit module
- Then validate the corresponding manufacturing order(MO)
- After all your kit quantity will be 12(8+4)
