How can I use a vector format (ex. svg) for the company logo?

Question

A vector image format (instead of bitmaps) for the company logo would insure a quality rendering at any scale and save space in PDF reports. How can I use a vector format (ex. svg) for the company logo?

Currently, you can't until someone adds this functionality.

It could come in the future for example as an update to v7, an addon module to v7, or intergrated to the upcoming v8. When that day comes, this answer should be either updated or deleted and replaced.
