If your part numbers are already stored in Internal Reference (default_code) and they are unique, you can actually use them directly during the BOM import without needing a separate app.

In the BOM import file, map the component product using:

Component / Product → Internal Reference

For example:

As long as the Internal Reference (default_code) of the product matches the part number from your SolidWorks export, Odoo will correctly resolve the product during import.

A practical workflow:

1. Ensure all parts exist in Odoo with the correct Internal Reference.

2. Export a sample BOM from Odoo with import-compatible fields.

3. Adapt your SolidWorks BOM to match the same column structure.

4. Import it via Manufacturing → Bills of Materials → Import.

This avoids custom modules and keeps everything using the standard Odoo importer.

Only if your SolidWorks export format is very different would a custom import script/module be needed.

Thanks to all for the replies. We have developed a system where we're able to take a BOM export from solid works, then map all the components to Odoo products via their internal reference, and name and use that to convert the SW BOM to an Odoo MRP BOM. It's a multi-step process, but it is working well enough.  

I still have question regarding BOM ECOs, and importing large change sets from solid works as an ECO, but I'll leave that for another post. Thanks again for all the feedback and suggestions.
