I'd like to be able to add a serial number in the POS. Can anyone offer suggesions?

I work in a shop that repairs and also sells computers. We plan/hope to start using Odoo soon and have the Enterprise edition.

When we make a sale we would like have a field where we can enter the serial number of that computer so in the future or for our warranty we will be able to look back and see that was the serial number the customer purchased etc etc.

Example: A customer purchases a MacBook Pro (of course each MacBook Pro has it's own serial number). We would like to be able to enter the serial number of that MacBook Pro. We offer a 1 year warranty. If in 6 months the hard drive dies and they come back, we would like to be able to look at the serial number of the MacBook Pro they brought in and look up to make sure it matches the one purchased 6 months ago or if is 13 months since the purchase,we can look up and tell them it is now out of warranty.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Currently in Odoo POS, having serial number functionality by default is not available. The serial number feature is available for the core Odoo modules( e.g Sales Module). In case you require the same Serial Number feature in POS, customization would be required to avail it.

Just to add,you can experience the Serial Number usage in CORE modules by following few steps of configuration :-

Go to Settings>Configuration>Warehouse>Traceability>Track lots or serial numbers
Go to Sales>Products>Products>(Select/Create any Product)>Inventory>Lots>(Check the check boxes as required)
Now go an Create an Sales Quotation and Select the Product configured
After confirming the Sales Quotation as soon as you click on the button button TRANSFER under DELIVERY ORDER, you will receive a pop up window where you would be asked to enter the LOT SERIAL NUMBER
The Serial Number that would be entered would unique for one quantity of same product and it cannot be the same serial number for two quantities of same product.
