When using a field of type Float this view places the default value of 0.0, there is no way of telling that the default value is null or empty?

According to this answer on a similar question on StackOverflow it's not possible and you have to use workarounds like an additional field or another field type.
I do not know if the answers is still valid for the new APIs, but I'm afraid it is.
