We used to be on odoo v8 and I believe aside from the product category option, the costing method was also configurable in the Inventory Settings or Accounting Settings.

We migrated to v11 and I dont see that option in Inventory or Accounting[Invoicing] Settings anymore. All my Product Category cards have the option set to Standard and Manual. I need average costing because we deal in steel which varies cost on every purchase. Im not sure whats going on. What should I look at in order to fix this if it needs fixing?

But the products still have their price history. So it seems that it is still calculating average cost. Which is what I want, but I dont know if I should still change the costing method since even though its on STANDARD, it seems to be averaging anyway. I also cant find the general setting for perpetual vs periodic inventory valuation.

Hi Marcio:

Check the hierarchy of the Product Categories to see if the valuation settings of a category at a lower level is overriding the one set at a higher level.

No. I checked all categories at the highest level and they are all standard price. That’s why I don’t understand

Check whether there are any sub-categories defined with a costing method of average cost. The setting on the lower level category will override the setting on a higher level category.

The setting for Perpetual and Periodic Inventory Valuation is in Product Category

It's renamed to Automated (Perpetual) and Manual (Periodic)

Yes I understand but what im saying is, every single Product Category Card as Standard Price and Manual Valuation, however it is using average costing method, ive checked in the price history detail of the products with recent purchases. Is there a different place where average costing can be set?

Do you mean that the Stock Valuation shows the Purchase Price rather than the Standard Cost?

What Im focused on is Costing Method. All our product category cards have Standard Price as the costing method. Yet costs are actually averaged out on every purchase.
