Today, CPD specializes in the import and distribution of off-road motorcycles, parts, garments, and accessories, serving both a growing network of dealerships and direct-to-consumer channels. “We also work with a wide dealer network and also run an online B2C program,” explains Mark.

Before Odoo: Fragmented Systems and Communication Gaps


Starting a business in a disrupted global environment came with plenty of challenges. Early on, CPD used a platform called Versa Cloud ERP for their operations, but quickly found limitations in its capabilities, especially around inventory management, retail storefront functionality, and staff communication.

They explored other well-known solutions, including Microsoft Dynamics, but found them cost-prohibitive. “We looked at big companies, but for us, as a small company with very tight margins, Odoo was the right fit,” said Mark. The company needed something flexible, integrated, and affordable, without sacrificing performance.

Rewriting the Rules of Efficiency


CPD found Odoo after an extensive search for an ERP that could consolidate the entire business onto a single, user-friendly platform. Since implementation, they’ve activated and regularly used more than a dozen Odoo apps to run their daily operations.

The most-used Odoo apps at Central Powersports Distribution include Inventory, Sales, Purchase, CRM, Contacts, and Accounting, which form the backbone of their daily operations. 

To support internal workflows and collaboration, the team also relies heavily on Discuss for communication, as well as Documents, Helpdesk, and Website for managing digital resources and customer support. Their marketing efforts are powered by Odoo’s Marketing & Social Media tools, while administrative tasks are streamlined through Sign, Employees, Attendance, Time Off, and Expenses.

For a small company, centralized communication and synchronized workflows are vital. While some features still require fine-tuning from them, the comprehensive nature of Odoo’s platform has saved CPD both time and money. Mark also affirms the system has introduced notable efficiencies in tracking issues, managing multi-location teams, and coordinating dealer transactions.

Gearing Up for Growth


As Central Powersports Distribution looks ahead, they are focused on streamlining their current setup and making the system even easier for their dealers to use. “We want to implement new apps and do some reprogramming to make it better for our usage, for sure,” Mark explains. That includes optimizing the user experience on the dealer side and simplifying internal workflows through custom development.

With the help of Jonathan, CPD’s in-house IT lead, the company plans to fine-tune its use of Odoo and roll out additional functionalities when time allows. The focus is on automation, clarity, and dealer satisfaction, which are key pillars of their upcoming roadmap.
