Is there any difference between downloading from bzr and the nightly build tar file? I am particularly curious about addons, as I assume the core files are the same.

I assume that the nightly build tar has been validated by the tests runbot while bzr have the risk not to be validated by runbot all the time.
Nightly build tar files are generated from the bzr branches.
