We use Odoo17 CE and I have encountered issues with part quantity count on MOs after a BOM change. Here is an example.

I have a manufacturing order for a product that requires Qty. 3 of Part XYZ. My customer changed their design and I now need Qty 5 of Part XYZ. I update the BOM then click the "Update BOM" link on the Manufacturing order.

The "To Consume" number correctly changes and a Picking order is created for the needed quantity. After the pick is complete and validated, some incorrect number is shown in the Quantity field of the MO that does not equal the total number of Part XYZ picked for the MO.

Any thoughts on what is going wrong?

I found out that this isn't just happening after updating the BOM. It can happen with no BOM modifications. MO calls for Qty 10 parts. I pick those 10 parts and the MO only shows 2 parts in the Quantity field. This happens intermittently to different parts.

I figured out this was caused by a process error. We were incorrectly returning items to stock from pre-production that were also counted as consumed by a manufacturing order. This resulted in reserved products being taken from reserved quantities on active MO's. The solution was simply to do an internal transfer back from the stock location to pre-production and re-reserve the components on the MO from which they were "stolen".
