Is there a way to assign a static IP address to our posbox?

The package system in the posbox is broken..
You might try commenting in /etc/default/ifplugd and afterwards manually adding the ip in /etc/network/interfaces as per the debian instructions.
Or, even better, assign a static lease on your dhcp server.
