Hey Odooers, I am very new to odoo so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I have tried several google searches but I still could not find an answer to my problems. I was wondering if anyone here could kindly help me.


1) I find the product picture in the inventory module to be too small for my company's use. For example, when I try to find some products in the product catalog, it would be very helpful to be able to expand the picture so that I can identify the product a lot better. Similar to social media profiles where one could tap on the photo and then a new window with a bigger picture appears. This functionality is currently lacking on both the webpage version of odoo inventory and the mobile version. It seems like with the web version, one could customize the presentation of the layout using javascript so technically I could implement the aforementioned function (I hope). However, when it comes to the mobile version unless the official dev implemented the function, I don't believe users like us can customize it at all. Let me know how you guys deal with this problem.


2) Is there a way to restrict employees’ authority to access the more advanced settings of odoo? What I am saying is, ideally we want to have senior managers (me and my mom) unlimited access to the advanced settings such as user’s access rights, etc. So, for example, we could prevent sales staff from changing their own access rights so that they could change inventory numbers, etc. This is obviously done to prevent staff collusion which is a major pain point for us. Facebook pages are very good at this because they have different roles for different users i.e. admin has total access to make changes to the page, while the editor can do everything but manage Page roles and settings etc.

I am going to answer the second question, There is two way to do access rights, the first and standard way needs technical knowledge. and the second & easiest way to do this is by installing the Simplify_Access_Management app.

  • You can customize the product template to display a larger image by modifying the element in the product.template.list view. You can use the style attribute to set the width and height of the image to a larger value. For example:

  • You can also install the web_image_preview module from the Odoo App store, which allows you to preview images in a larger size by clicking on them.

For example, you can create a new user group for your sales staff and give them only the access rights that they need to perform their job, such as access to the sales and inventory modules. You can then assign this user group to your sales staff users.

Alternatively, you can use the multi-company feature in Odoo to create separate companies for different departments or groups of users, and give each company its own set of access rights. This way, you can give your sales staff access to only the sales and inventory modules of their company, while giving your senior managers access to all modules.
