We have evidence that the fiscal position for a contact is changing, and can't figure out why.

I can't believe that it happens by itself, but there are only a few users who have access to the contact info, and none of them (say they) have changed it, yet there is evidence that a single customer/contact has placed ~10 orders over the last months, and we can see that the fiscal position of those orders has changed back and forth between three different values over that period.

I don't believe that there's an audit trail, and the order history doesn't show that the FP was changed at order entry, nor can I see that the contact record has had the FP changed on it.  But it now shows a value for Fiscal Position that is not the same as it was in August, and there is an order from a few months before that has a completely different FP.

Is there any way to track down what is changing this value, and why?

I've discovered when this happens, and what triggers it, but I can't figure out why.

We have customers who have multiple shipping locations in different provinces, hence different fiscal positions for different addresses.  But they have a common 'parent company' because, well, they're the same company.

So if I go to the parent and change their fiscal position, it cascades down to all the delivery locations.  They're in different places, so they need to be different, but for some reason, changing the parent FP trickles down to the children.  Nothing else changes.

Puzzled. Anyone have any thoughts?
