For some of my manufacturing orders which have Bills of materials fully defined for the variation combination, the manufacturing order is fully confirmed before I even get a chance to see it. This locks in the assigned warehouse and other functionalities that I don't really want. I cannot find anywhere in the settings or Bills of Materials options or routes that defines this, but I'm hoping I'm just overlooking something. How can I set all manufacturing orders to show up as drafts?

In Summary, we could create blank BOMs associated with the products, and then secondary BOMs for how we actually want to produce the item.
The reason the MOs are confirmed and locked is due to the stock transfers that are automatically created from the pull or push rules associated with the route. One user proposed that if the stock transfers are removed, then the MO can be changed more effectively.
So what I wrote down below about the stock transfers locking the MO into confirmed status isn't quite true. I deleted the stock transfers, and the order was still locked into a Confirmed status pointing at the wrong warehouse.
I haven't yet found a solution but have a similar hurdle. https://www.odoo.com/forum/help-1/odoo-14-manufacturing-order-reset-to-draft-200523
I'll be watching to see if solutions arise.
Thanks for sharing. The comment you got on your post didn't make a lot of sense. I was hoping that i could find somehting in the manufacturing route or somewhere else, but it seems like it just goes straight to confirmed.
So I'm going to implement Quality Checks on the manufacturing order. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Not sure what a "Register Consumed Materials" quality check is , and I don't even see a place to set that setting, but I've created a quality control point and assigned it to my primary manufacturing product categories to see if that will lock the Manufacturing Orders in Draft until I confirm the materials, warehouse info, and others.
I would prefer if Odoo would just have a Reset to Draft button though. This is a step I don't actually need to have to do.
