Prerequisite: 

This article contains detailed information on tax setup and cash basis tax functionalities. The screenshot attached is specific to version 17 and the USA localization; however, the process should apply to most versions.


Purpose:

Odoo provides a solution for calculating taxes with a hierarchy in cases involving a combination of fixed and percentage-based taxes. Workflow and outcome:

Workflow and result

A company is selling a battery and is required to pay an environmental fixed tax (Eco-tax). The VAT (tax percentage) should include the Eco-tax.

The battery price is $130.
Eco-tax is $4.5

VAT is 21%

We expect to see the total amount after tax to be 162.745

 

Pre-tax $130

Tax 21% = $28.245 = (130+4.5) * 0.21

Total = $162.745 =(130+4.5) * 1.21

 


Configuration

1. Create the eco-tax (fixed) (affect the base of subsequence tax)




2. Create a VAT tax on the sales.




3. Create a group of tax for eco-tax and VAT tax.



4. Make sure we set the hierarchy so that the base tax (eco-tax) has a higher sequence than the VAT tax.
