Curious if there are alternative methods available within Odoo to obtain these statements, or if configuration is necessary. If configuration is indeed required, I would greatly appreciate guidance on how to configure statements for both customers and vendors.

Hello,
You can install the Accounting Customer Statement module and take the customer statement prints from Odoo. The print will be available in Customer > Action. You can watch below video as well for more details.
Another option is to take the it from the Accounting > Reporting > Partner Ledger. There is no separate configuration is required. You can filter the partner and take the report in PDF or Excel
