Hi everyone,

we're using Odoo v16 with the Asset Management module. When a depreciation entry is created for an asset that has an analytic account, Odoo assigns the analytic account to both the debit and credit lines of the journal entry.

From a cost accounting perspective, the analytic account should only be applied to the expense (debit) line, not the asset (credit) line, since only the expense is relevant for analytic reporting.

Is this the expected behavior?

Has anyone found a clean way to avoid this?

Thanks!

Michael

Hi,

Yes, this is the default behavior in Odoo 16. When a depreciation entry is created for an asset with an analytic account, Odoo assigns the analytic account to both the debit (expense) and credit (asset) lines.

However, from a cost accounting and analytic reporting perspective, the analytic account should only apply to the debit (expense) line. The credit (asset reduction) side is not relevant for analytics and can cause inflated or misleading reports.

Currently, Odoo does not offer a built-in configuration to change this. A few workarounds:

Manually remove the analytic account from the credit line after posting the entry.

Apply analytic filters in reporting to focus only on expense accounts.

If needed, consider a small customization to restrict analytic accounts only to the debit line of depreciation entries.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for confirming that this is the default behavior in Odoo 16.

To avoid distortions in our cost center reporting, we’ll most likely implement a small workaround using an automated action that removes the analytic account from the credit (asset) line after the depreciation entry is posted. If that proves too limited, we’ll consider a proper customization later on.

Thanks again for the clarification and helpful suggestions!
