When I add items to my cart and the click on the Cart button, I get the following error:


500: Internal Server Error

If this error is caused by a change of yours in the templates, you have the possibility to reset the template to its factory settings.

The issue had occurred when I upgraded to this version. Now it has been resolved with the help of support staff. They had to modify the coding of many pages from backend.

The 500: Internal Server Error you’re seeing when clicking the Cart button is caused by a template rendering problem in your website_sale.cart template. The key error is:

SyntaxError: t-call must be on a <t> element (actually on <div>).

This tells us that somewhere in your template, you’re using:

<div t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"/>

…but in Odoo, t-call directives must be placed on <t> tags, not on <div> or other HTML elements. This is a strict rule of the QWeb templating engine.

Why this happens

  • Odoo’s QWeb engine uses <t> tags for template logic.

  • <t t-call="..."/> means “render this template here.”

  • Placing it on a <div> breaks parsing, causing the 500 error.

So even though <div> works in normal HTML, QWeb won’t allow t-call there.

How to fix it

  1. Find the problematic line in website_sale.cart. It probably looks like this:

<div t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"/>

  1. Replace it with a <t> tag:

<t t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"/>

  1. If you need a wrapper <div> for layout, wrap the <t> inside a <div>:

<div>
    <t t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"/>
</div>

  1. Save the changes and update your module in Odoo.

  2. Clear the browser cache (sometimes templates are cached).

  3. Test by adding an item to the cart and clicking the Cart button.

The error you're seeing is caused by an invalid QWeb syntax inside the website_sale.cart template.


Odoo is very strict about QWeb structure, and the following rule applies:

✔ t-call MUST be used only on a <t> tag.

 

In your customized template, Odoo detected:

Syntax Error : t-call must be on a <t> element (actually on <div>)

This means somewhere in the overridden cart template, the code looks like:


<div t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout">

This is not allowed in QWeb and causes the entire Shopping Cart page to crash with a 500 error.

 

How to Fix:

Replace the incorrect line with a valid QWeb structure:

<t t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"/>

 

If you need to wrap the layout inside a <div> , then do:

<t t-call="website_sale.checkout_layout"> 
    <div> 
        <!-- your custom content --> 
    </div> 
</t>

Hi,
This error indicates a template syntax issue in your Odoo website_sale module. The problem is clear from the error message: t-call is being used on a <div> element when it should only be used on a <t> element.
