Hi,
What is the best practice to solve the following website builder issue/case:
Once the website has been put "live" and you want to make some changes.
You can't just make these on the live pages, so I would image that you do this on a TEST database or at least on duplicated website/pages.
I tried to solve it through an export/import on a duplicated database but you keep getting errors on the import side of the live database.
Working with a "duplicated website" within the same live database seems to be an issue as only 1 website can be active (logical) but how can you alter the non active website then?
Adding "new" pages has also crossed my mind but then you have problems with the internal links to the different pages.
So in the end the question is, what is the "best practice" without touching the "live" website and doing a lot of double work.
Kind regards,
Emanuel

Hi Emanuel,
unfortunately, Odoo does not have versioning of the pages. I am still sad about it because the versioning+AB testing of pages was there in v10, and then they took it away :(
Usually, when I needed to prepare some changes for the page & it wasn´t just changing a word/picture, but something a bit more complex, I would prepare the new version on a testing/staging environment and then copy the whole HTML code of the page from testing and paste it to the production (either through frontend HTML editor, or in backend through Settings > Technical > Views. No need of importing, so you can avoid the import issues.
Then, I would only upload the pictures to the corresponding places, if I changed any.
I hope this workaround saves you a bit of time
Sincerely
Ivana from edoo.is
Hi Ivana,
Thanks for your feedback. Your suggestion is also the way that I'm using it right now but as you mentioned pictures are not copied when you copy the HTML code into the live database. So there is still some additional "tweaking" required.
But if this is the only way to do it right now, then I'll keep using this one. It at least saves time to build up the entire page from scratch again.
Kind regards,
Emanuel
