I want to connect devices with my odoo instance. One is to download the Odoo IOT on windows but I am not able to connect this virtual IOT with my Odoo instance (Community version 18). Is there any way to do it so that I can connect printers, scales and other devices. I want to this for my POS app which has option for the preparation printers, receipt printer.

Connect Windows IoT Odoo — Odoo 18.0 documentation
Check this link there is a prerequisite for Virtual IOT. Below is one of the prerequisites

Whenever we try to connect the downloaded Odoo Virtual IOT with the Odoo database instance it first reaches the https://www.odoo.com. Also, in the credentials there are two fields - DB uuid and contract number. I think DB uuid is present but contract number is the enterprise code which is not available in odoo community or enterprise free trial.

So, I think its only possible to connect the paid Odoo enterprise databse with this Windows IOT

I am running this in localhost:8069

This is the credentials wizard

Odoo IoT Box Alternative on Windows:

  • The Odoo IoT Box is typically a physical device running Linux, designed to manage connections with printers, scales, and other peripherals.
  • Since you are using Windows, you might face compatibility issues. The virtual IoT box you’re trying to run on Windows isn’t officially supported in the same way as the physical IoT Box.
  • However, you could explore setting up a virtual Linux environment on Windows (e.g., using VirtualBox) and installing the IoT Box software within this Linux virtual machine. This approach can mimic the official IoT Box environment more closely.

Custom Integration with Odoo Community:

  • community version lacks built-in IoT support for POS, but there are third-party modules in the Odoo app store designed for device integration, including printers and scales, that work without the IoT box.
  • You might consider using or customizing such a module to integrate with the devices directly through Windows if virtual Linux IoT Box setup is not ideal.
