Bulk change of contacts from "Business" type to "Individual".

Question

Just as the title says.  Imported contacts and they all defaulted to Businesses and I would like a work around to avoid manually changing each one.

I noticed a similar post for applying a company name/tag across multiple contacts by using developer mode in List View and hope there is a similar work around.

Hi;
Follow the next steps:
1. Export contacts for which you need to change the type.

Check the "I want to update data (import-compatible export)" checkbox
And select only the "Company Type" field

2. In the generated file, set all company_type to “Company”, save the changes

3. Import the file back into the system

Thank you for your detailed and timely reply.

This was very close to exactly what I needed.  I followed your instructions, except when it came to "company_type" I selected "is_company" instead and replaced all instances of TRUE with FALSE.  Worked like a charm.  I apologize if my meaning wasn't clear, but I find your method to be much more user friendly.  Thanks again!

@Yaroslav: I tried this method but ended up with all double contacts. How do I avoid this from happening? I can't seem to undo the import so now I've got all my contacts existing as an Individual ànd as a company. Merging only seems to work manually?
